About Our Staff


Chris King - Director of Bands

Chris King was named Director of Bands at Prattville High School in 2013. Previously he was band director at Prattville Junior High for 8 years. Chris has experience teaching music or band to students in the 1st- 12th grade. Before coming to Prattville Junior High, he served as:

  • General Music Teacher at Daniel Pratt Elementary in Prattville, AL
  • Director of Bands at Wetumpka High School & Junior High in Wetumpka, AL
  • Director of Bands at Chilton County High School & Adair Junior High in Clanton, AL

Chris is a 1998 graduate from Auburn University where he earned a Bachelors of Music Education degree. While at Auburn University, he served as trumpet section leader & played in the Trumpet Ensemble, Latin Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. He was also a member of the Auburn University Concert Choir & Men's Ensemble.

In addition to his band experience, Chris marched with the Cadets of Bergen County Drum & Bugle Corps in 1988, 1991, 1992, & 1993 when the Cadets won the DCI championship in Jackson, MS. He was asked to come back & serve on the visual staff in 1995.

Chris is a member of Alabama Bandmasters Association, MENC (Music Educators National Conference), and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is an active member of Prattville First United Methodist Church. His proudest accomplishment is being Daddy to his three daughters, Ashtyn Grace, Emma Claire, and Audrey Kate. He married Kim (Cooper) King in 1998. The Kings reside in Prattville, AL.

Michael Skeen - Associate Director of Bands

Mr. Skeen currently serves as Associate Director of Bands - Director of Percussion and Director of Jazz at Prattville High School.


Mr. Skeen is from Hartford, AL and a graduate of Geneva County High School. While there, he participated in both the band and choir programs. As a member of the band program, Mr. Skeen was the percussion assistant section leader for two years and the percussion section leader for two years. 


After graduation, Mr. Skeen attended Enterprise State Junior College in Enterprise, AL and participated in the award-winning show choir, the "Entertainers." While a member of the "Entertainers," he served as a choreographer and received a fine arts scholarship. Also during this time, Mr. Skeen served many area high schools as a percussion instructor. 


Mr. Skeen transferred to Troy University in the Fall of 2002 to pursue a Bachelor of Music Education degree. Throughout his time there, Mr. Skeen was a part of many instrumental and vocal ensembles including the famous "Sound of the South" Marching Band, symphonic band, concert band, chamber winds, Jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, pep band, collegiate singers, and chamber choir. As a member of the "Sound of the South" Marching Band, Mr. Skeen continued growing in leadership skills by becoming the Assistant Section Leader for the percussion section. 


Mr. Skeen graduated from Troy University in May 2005 and began his teaching experience by becoming the Assistant Band Director at Russell County High School in Seale, AL. He served as the assistant for three years. Mr. Skeen learned many life lessons throughout his tenure as the assistant and was able to continue to apply these lessons after becoming the Band Director in 2008. He saw the band program at Russell County grow and mature into a moral, hard-working, and highly competitive program - receiving numerous superior and "Best in Class" Awards.


In August of 2013, Mr. Skeen was awarded his Master of Education degree from Columbus State University in Columbus, GA. He has served for several years as a percussion judge for Alabama District VIII Solo and Ensemble and at the Dixieland Band Showcase in Brewton, AL. Mr. Skeen has also served as band judge for the Phenix Invitational Marching Festival for several years.  Mr. Skeen is affiliated with the Alabama Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Educators, Alabama Education Association, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and Phi Boota Roota (National Drumline Fraternity).  He is also a member of the Alabama Winds and the educational team for Salyers Percussion.

Deryl Hunt - Assistant Band Director

Mr. Hunt is the music teacher at Prattville Elementary and Intermediate Schools. He began teaching in 1999 and has been the Minister of Music at Millbrook Baptist Church since October 2018. He became the Assistant Band Director at Prattville High School for the 2022 season. In addition to teaching and leading music, Mr. Hunt has played saxophone and other instruments with the Prattville Pops and the Millbrook Theater, and has sung with the Prattville Community Chorus, in years past. Deryl and his wonderful wife, Pam, have been married since 1992 and have a daughter, Madelyn, a travel Speech-Language Pathologist currently living in North Dakota.

Meredith Woodfin - Auxiliary Sponsor

Ms. Meredith Woodfin is the Auxiliary Sponsor as of the 2023-2024 school year. She is also a 10th grade English teacher at Prattville High School.


A Prattville native, Ms. Woodfin graduated from Prattville High School in 2017. In high school, she was active in both the Pride of Prattville Marching Band as a majorette and the Prattville Spotlight Show Choir.


In 2017, Ms. Woodfin began her college education at Troy University. She was a majorette in the Sound of the South for all four years of college and served as the captain for the 2020-2021 season. During her time at Troy, Ms. Woodfin choreographed tryout and field shows for Zion Chapel High School and Holtville High School. She has also judged auxiliary tryouts at multiple schools across central Alabama. She graduated from Troy in December 2021 with her B.S. in Secondary English/Language Arts Education.


During her internship, she became the majorette sponsor at Holtville High School where she stayed until coming aboard the Pride of Prattville this year. This will be her third year teaching English and her fifth year as the primary choreographer for a majorette line.

Russell Mann - Percussion Instructor

Mr. Mann graduated from Marbury High School in 2000. He participated in the “Northstar” Marching Band, Jazz Band, Concert Band, attended several university honor bands, District V Jr. High and High School Honor Band, All-State Band, and was percussion section leader for three years.


Mr. Mann attended Troy (State) University and graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. While at TSU/Troy, he played in the “Sound of the South” Marching Band, Symphony Band, Chamber Winds, “Escape” Percussion Ensemble, Pep Band and Concert Band. Also, Mr. Mann became a member of Phi Boota roota National Percussion Fraternity and Delta Chi Fraternity. Served as PBr National President from 2018-2021.


Mr. Mann joined the Prattville band staff in 2017 as Percussion Instructor. Prior to coming to PHS, he served as Percussion Instructor at Holtville High School from 2013-2016, Charles Henderson High School in 2009, and several other schools during college.


Mr. Mann has also been Percussion Instructor at the University of West Alabama since 2015 and is a member of the Salyers Percussion Educational Team.


Mr. Mann currently serves as a Sergeant with the Tallassee Police Department, with duties including A (Day) shift Supervisor, A Shift Commander, Field Training Officer, TASER Instructor, Traffic Homicide Investigator, and SWAT team member.


Mr. Mann's father, Ted Mann, retired as Band Director at Marbury High School in 2002 and his grandfather, Fred Mann, started the Autauga County (now Prattville) High School Band in 1950.
